Story of Growth to Become the Electrolysis Specialist for Industry

2010

Founding Sunfire

Sunfire was founded by Nils Aldag, Christian von Olshausen and Carl Berninghausen with the goal to develop hydrogen and e-fuel solutions.

Since 2010

SOEC Electrolyzer Development & Prototyping

Validation of the first SOEC electrolyzers, together with strong industrial partners such as Salzgitter.

2021

Product Portfolio Expansion with Alkaline Electrolysis

Acquisition of the Swiss electrolysis company IHT SA with a site in Monthey, which has more than 70 years of experience in the manufacturing and operation of pressurized Alkaline electrolyzers.

2021

Expansion of In-House Production Facilities

Acquisition of the German electroplating specialist MTV NT GmbH with a site in Solingen. MTV is one of the global market leaders in functional surface coatings for large components.

2022

World’s Largest SOEC Electrolyzer Achieves Record Efficiency

Sunfire proves a record efficiency of 84 % LHV AC of its SOEC electrolyzer in the scope of the EU-funded GrInHy2.0 project.

Sunfire Wins its First Industrial Alkaline Electrolysis Project

Sunfire enters a new era in business development with a 10 MW order from RWE. This was followed by further orders for industrial projects – up to a scale of 100 MW.

    Sunfire’s reversible electrolysis wins the Innovation & Climate Protection Award. The awards were organized for the 19th time by the Working Group on Efficient, Environmentally-Friendly Energy Consumption (ASUE) in cooperation with BDEW, DVGW and Zukunft ERDGAS. They honor innovative developments and concepts from the worlds of both science and industry, with particular focus placed on efficient natural gas technologies and processes.
