On track for growth – Sunfire expands management team with CFO and COO, Nils Aldag taking over the role of CEO

Dresden, November 25, 2020

The EU has set itself ambitious goals for the electrolysis market. By 2030, the capacity of installed electrolyzers is to reach 40 GW, leading to an increasing demand for electrolyzers on an international scale. In the wake of political and economic developments, Sunfire is reallocating roles within the team and bringing further support for the planned upscaling of electrolyzer production on board.

Nils Aldag, Co-founder and currently Chief Commercial Officer (CCO), will be taking over the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). As Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Christian von Olshausen will continue to be responsible for all technical topics at Sunfire, using his broad technological expertise to drive the further development of electrolysis technology.
Carl Berninghausen is transferring from his previous role as CEO to Chairman of the Supervisory Board and will thus remain closely connected to the company. As the biggest private investor, he will support the management team as a sparring partner for strategic decisions in their daily work. The founding team, which has built up Sunfire to one of the world’s leading electrolysis suppliers over the past 10 years, will thus continue to be the strong top management of the company.

In addition, Bernhard Zwinz joined the management team as Chief Operating Officer (COO) on July 1, 2020. As a long-time expert in the field of Operations, he brings decisive competencies for the production scaling at Sunfire. In his previous positions as COO of the fuel cell manufacturer SOLIDpower Group and as Director Market Development at Plexus, Bernhard Zwinz has already successfully proven his strong leadership skills and experience in the field of industrialization. He also gained several years of experience at the tech companies Jabil and Zoellner. He also gained several years of experience at the tech companies Jabil and Zoellner. He holds a Master of Microelectronics at FH Technikum Vienna and studied Business Administration (EMBA) at Donau-University Krems.

Stephan Garabet will complete the management team as new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), being responsible for strategic financial topics at Sunfire. Stephan Garabet joins from Infineon Technologies, a global leader in semiconductor design and manufacturing, where he held the position as Vice President Finance. Prior to that, he worked for several years in the Corporate Finance department at Deutsche Bank Frankfurt and London. Stephan Garabet holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from INSEAD Business School and studied at University College London.

Carl Berninghausen, Nils Aldag and Christian von Olshausen founded Sunfire in 2010 and today successfully manage more than 240 employees. With the two additional management functions, the founding team will be significantly strengthened on the technical and administrative side – paving the way to a promising future.
