Sunfire Optimizes Production Footprint: Monthey Site to Be Relocated to Germany

The company is relocating its Monthey site to Germany as part of a strategic move to strengthen competitiveness and ensure sustainable growth.

Dresden, February 19, 2025 – Sunfire has announced a strategic adjustment to its production footprint, with the decision to relocate its production and after-sales site in Monthey, Switzerland, to Germany. This transition is expected to be completed by end of the year and will integrate the production capacities for pressurized alkaline electrolyzers into Sunfire’s German facilities.

This decision follows a thorough analysis and aligns with Sunfire’s long-term strategy to increase competitiveness and secure profitable growth in the dynamic hydrogen market. By consolidating production, the company aims to optimize processes and strengthen its position as a leading provider of electrolysis technologies.

Sunfire took over the Monthey site in 2021 with the acquisition of Industrie Haute Technologies SA (IHT) to add pressurized alkaline electrolysis technology to its product portfolio. The acquisition was a key step in expanding Sunfire’s market position, providing customers with a versatile range of solutions for industrial applications.

Today, the Dresden-based company has successfully built up industrial-scale production capacities in Germany for pressurized alkaline electrolyzers, with the ability to adjust its capacities to market developments with flexibility and minimal costs. Until 2030, Sunfire will build-up a multi-GW production capacity – ready to supply large-scale green hydrogen projects in Europe and across the globe.
